Conquering China
Tianjin is a neighboring city of Beijing. A mere 60 mins
by train. Yet, it feels miles apart from the ancient city of
Beijing. Tianjin being a port as well as one of the first
entry point to China by foreigners as well as having
been somewhat "colonised" by the Europeans, it bodes a
European look & feel to it. I spent a mere 12 hours or so
in Tianjin so I can't possibly say I'd have an accurate
impression of this city. However, what I saw, mostly
architectural delights, was enough to warrant another
visit in the future. For those who will venture as far as
Beijing, I highly recommend you to make a short trip to
Tianjin. It's worth the time & effort.

Dalian is another port of China. It is a relative new city,
at least that's the way it felt & one can see that from the
city planning & layout. Dalian has some awesome
seafood, including a favorite of mine, the abalone. In
Dalian, one ought to feast like the king or you'd have
made a wasted trip! People here are friendly & open too.
However, I urge you to be ultra careful of the drivers,
esp. taxi drivers! They are one crazy bunch who poses
not only danger to themselves but all pedestrians!!!
This month I made my way to the land of the
emperors, Beijing. It was not that long ago since I
last visited this capital. It's neither the coldest month
nor the hottest month of the year to settle down
here, & so I thought. I landed on March 1. It was a
nice sunny day & I didn't think much of the weather.
After settling down at where I was due to put up for
the next few months, or even years, I proceeded to
enjoy life in this ancient city of China. A few days
passed by without much of an event. Yet, the
weather began to change its course. It got so cold to
a stage I had to head to the store to get a portable
heater! & I did make full use of it even though it's
supposed to be Spring then. China officially shuts
down its heating system for the entire country on
March 15 every year; some kind of rules which I
heard of for the very first time! After a month of
unbearable freeze, I decided I will not be spending
my winter chill in Beijing. But before moving south,
I'll have to travel around northern China to get the
most of my stay. & so I went crazy traveling for the
next few months. In the month of March, Tianjin &
Dalian were my destinations.
