A distant land to many, unheard of even by the most traveled. It is a country that generated interest only in a minority of travelers, a country not known for tourism, esp. since it lives under the shadow of its more well known cousins: Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia & Myanmar (Burma). In fact, what is Laos known for? Do u know? Other than its aromatic coffee which you probably have tasted had you been spending lots of time in Parisian cafes (Laos exported coffee mainly to Paris).

Luang Prabang: Lost Paradise
Well, this is one of the very few places in the world where you will wake up to the sirens of the rooster (& I do mean SIRENS) in early hours, as early as 3 am(!) but do not have to rush to work because there simply is no traffic jam & life is as good as it gets here! The slow pace of life & the simplicity of the people & of living are not necessary what everyone in the cosmopolitan yearns for. BUT, if for some reason you need a good break to find your bearings & to think about the philosophy of life, this is clearly the place for you!
I found myself woke up one early morning after the roosters refused to take a break from its usual daily affairs & headed for the streets of Luang Prabang to observe the monks doing their rounds every morning around 5.30 - 6.30 am for their daily essentials. It was quite a unique experience to see believers pay the respect by kneeling & pay homage to the holy ones.
