Hohhot (呼和浩特 Hūhéhàotè) is the capital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. When I told my colleagues
I've just returned from Inner Mongolia, they were all surprised. Why would I want to go to such a place, the
question was. I then asked in return, what do u mean by such a place? What kind of place do you think this is?

Most people envision the residents here to be living in the wild. Under tents or gher (or yurt). My guide here
told me about a joke he told his friends in other provinces... that they go to work on horses & "parked" those
horses outside their offices. & funnily enough, most believed him! That in fact is what 99.99% of the world
think about Hohhot & Inner Mongolia. Well, for me, I was surprised at how advanced & modern this city is. In
fact, a lot more cosmopolitan than other big cities like Kunming, Guilin & even Chengdu. Surprised?
Overwhelmed? Attracted? Curious? Wanna visit?

SINGING SANDS

Most do not think of desert when they think China. Especially
not in Inner Mongolia. This is the land of pastures & grassland.
Did I say desert? Yep, desert! & one that "sings" as well! ;-)

The fun thing about this desert is you can slide down it, you
can ride on camel & navigate its interior, you can be on
4-wheel drive &  speed through its entire vastness or you can
just sit there & relaxing in its natural beauty. It is big but not
lonely. It is out of this world but not unreachable. It is what
you see & yet it is constantly a changing canvas of exception
beauty. It is what you make out of it & it is all that will fill your
imagination once you've had a taste of the ever-changing vista.

Sands... like water, can be pure, can be pristine. Unlike water,
it can never quench your thirst for it!
