B A N G K O K
A shopper's paradise; a culinary banquet; a buddhist's pilgrimage; Bangkok is world-renowned tourist
destination. It is a capital with the
world's longest name (164 lettes in total) & has a new airport expected to
handle 100 million passengers each year! Once known as the Venice of the East, Bangkok is also officially
known as "City of Angels" (Krung Tehp in Thai).

A visit to this exotic city starts with one of the worst traffic jam in Asia, if not
the worst! Still, that is simply a
minor inconvenience one has to endure & learns to live with compared to the many pleasures one can find in
this exotic city.

BANGKOK sparkles! Everything about this city is hot; the temples & palace are mostly in glittering gold, the food
is spicy & the people are warm. Uniquely, "heaven & hell" co-exist in this city. It's where religion & prostitution
are found almost everywhere in the city. If one can resist judging the city & accept it for what it is, then this is
one city where you'll come to love. Tough, perhaps, but it's worth a try. Afterall, where in the world can one find
a restaurant named "
Cabbages & Condoms"! ;-)
The King & I

What was it that first captured our imagination about Thailand?
The elephants & the kings? Or was it a remake of "The King & I"?
Was it the silk, gold & wat that adorned this bustling & vibrant city?
Or was it the pleasures of the senses that one hears from had-been visitors to this
part of the world? (& I do mean for the young & the old, the decent & the decadent,
the serene & the agitated...)

For whatever the reasons, one formed an opinion based on one's visit. Mine had
been wonderful to begin with. Bangkok the city may have been restless, but its
people are not. A face with friendly smile & warm hospitality is one that will always
welcome foreign visitors.

A visit to Bangkok ought to begin with the Grand Palace. It is the greatest
monument in Bangkok & one can easily spend a morning or afternoon in it. A visit
to the Grand Palace introduces one to the elegance & culture of the Thai kingdoms.
It is also here that one could get some reprieve from the traffic on the streets & the
glittering heat!
